Yes, it is possible to reload or reinstall Nero 6 using the serial number even if the CD is lost. The user can download the software from the official Nero website or other trusted sources, and then use their valid serial number during the installation process.
Nero Express is basically the same thing as Nero Burning ROM, but with simplified user interface and less advanced options. The applications have the same role and you can achieve the same result with both of them.
To summarize, Nero Express is the "LITE" version of the Nero Burning ROM, created for people with less knowledge and experience when it comes to disc burning. It's just way more easier to use.
My first time on Nero shows the following message: "Nero - Burning Rom has a known compatibility issue with this version of Windows. For an update that is compatible with this version of Windows, contact Ahead Software."
How can I update it?

Your Windows operating system is ok, the problem is the software that is outdated. In this case downloading new Nero should fix it. The latest version of the software, Nero 11, has support even for Windows 8 which is not yet released so in this case the error you had should disappear when you're updating. You can download the software from the present website or using the official page of the application. You don't need to uninstall the old software as the new one takes care of this matter for you. The on-screen wizard should be enough for you to update the software in an easy way.

This problem exists due to the old version of the core components or in copies of Nero that haven't been activated. In the trial mode, you can't burn files larger than 100 Mb. Start Control Center in Nero, then check for updates. Additionally, add all the serial numbers you have to the application in order to register it properly, then try burning again.
Nero Burning ROM can support a wide variety of file formats including many types of image formats. Besides the usual ISO image format, Nero offers support to import CUE and IMG image types and full support for its proprietary NRG image type. If you have further questions about the capabilities of Nero Burning ROM access Nero's technical specifications webpage.
